William Francis was born in March 1846 in Aldfield, Ripon, Yorkshire, England.1   William Francis' father was William Newis and his mother was Ursula Kitson.  His paternal grandfather was James Newis.  He had four brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, James, Jospeh, Elizabeth, Elizabeth and Margaret A.  He was the seventh oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 29 in March 1875 in Ripon, Yorkshire, England.
