Nellie was born in 1891 in Keighley, Yorkshire, England.1   Nellie's father was James Argent and her mother was Eliza E Smith.  Her paternal grandparents were George Argent and Emily Mann.  She had three brothers and seven sisters, named John, Walter, Willie, Sarah, Aletha, Laura, Emma, Elizabeth, Kate and Mary J.  She was the youngest of the eleven children.
