Jessie was born in 1897 in Ellon.  Jessie's father was James Thom and her mother was Eliza  Jane Stuart .  Her paternal grandparents were Wlilliam Thom and <Unknown>; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Stuart and margaret Park. She had two brothers and three sisters, named George, James, Maggie, Mary and Jeannie.  She was the second youngest of the six children.
