George was born in 1887 in Savoch.  George's father was James Thom and his mother was Eliza  Jane Stuart .  His paternal grandparents were Wlilliam Thom and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Stuart and margaret Park. He had a brother and four sisters, named James, Maggie, Mary, Jeannie and Jessie.  He was the oldest of the six children.
