Jane  was born in 1880 in Newhills Parish Aberdeen.  Jane 's father was James Bird and her mother was Margeret Davidson.  Her paternal grandparents were George Bird and Helen Alexander; her maternal grandparents were John Davidson and Isabella Wilson.  She was the sixth of seven children.  She had five brothers and a sister, named James, Leslie, Ebenezer, George, Robert and Margaret.
