James was born in 1873 in Methlick.  James' father was James Bird and his mother was Margeret Davidson.  His paternal grandparents were George Bird and Helen Alexander; his maternal grandparents were John Davidson and Isabella Wilson. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Leslie, Ebenezer, George, Robert, Margaret and Jeanie.  He was the oldest of the seven children.  He died due to heart disease, Cor. Thrombosis, at the age of 80 in 1953 in 22 Young Street Aberdeen.
