Jean was born in 1907.  Jean's father was James Mathieson and her mother is Laura Taylor.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Mathieson and Jane Houston. She had six brothers named Robert, Taylor, Oliver, George, James and Leonard.  She is the fifth oldest of the seven children.
