    1871 Census with parents and 2 siblings living at Southside, Staindrop, Durham.father a gardener.
    John Henry Stobbart went to sea at age 13 in sailing ships 1880's On first voyage was shipwrecked on Goodwin Sands. Transferred and stuck with steamships after that!
    1891 Census a Visitor at 7 Thorney Terrace, Westoe, Laygate, S Shields, Mariner Family Head a Clerk Ship Repairing firm.
    Fact at time of marriage living at Westoe, Co Durham. 1901 census was living at 25 Northcote St, S.Shields.
    1901 Census was sailing as Mate on S S Brio was in Victoria Docks London.
    eventually became Captain, February 13 1903
    Was employed by Pelton S.S. Co, Milburn House, Newcastle, as Chief Mate and Master from 14.1.01 till 4.12.07 Ships owned by the company traded North Sea, Near Continent, Baltic, etc. He never went around the world.

    After leaving the sea, he purchased a grocer shop in 1910 at 1/3 Tenth Av, Heaton on Tyne (corner shop)
    Sold shop in 1936, moved to 119 Chiltern Av, Bushey Heath. Left £1190.9s to his wife when he died.
