    Doreen was born in Southfield Hessle. She went to school at The Lodge School in Hull and then Hampden House in Buckinghamshire ( the school had moved there from Hertfordshire after one term in Symonsbath in Devon). She went with her mother to live in Oswoldkirk and worked and trained as a radiographer at The City Hospital in York. It was there that she met Tom who was a house physician. She moved back to Hessle with her family and worked as a radiographer at Hull Royal Infirmary. She married Dr Thomas Harling Park on 12.8.1948 whilst he was a medical officer in The RAF. They settled in York where she had three children. When the children became older she was appointed as a magistrate on the York Bench. She served as a Chairman on the Juvenile and Domestic Courts. She was appointed to be a visitor to the Wetherby Borstal.  She was on the committee of Cancer Relief and Chairman of the Governors of th CofE Children's Home in Acomb. She did voluntary work in occupational therapy at The Cheshire Home at Alne Hall where she became a member of the management Committee. She takes library books out to all the residents every week. For many years she was an organiser of fund raising for the Cheshire Home. She has been chairman of Ladies Circle and of Tangent Club. For many years she was on St Stephen's Church Acomb PCC.
