    Joseph married Clarissa Rhodes and they had one daughter Catherine. He was in the woolen business of Joseph Newsome and Sons with his father and brother George he but left the business sometime after the 1881 census Catherine died in 1883 of uraemia and metritis. Her death certicate describes him as a stockbroker. Census 1881 Birkdale Villa Dewsbury Joseph Newsome Jnr head 30 Woolen manufacturer b Dewsbury In fact he was 35 Clarrissa do wife 28 b Chapeltown Leeds Catherine do daur 4 b Dewsbury He later lived with Katherine Magdalene Schafer by whom he had three sons Jack b1893, Frank b 1896 and Cecil1897. At some time they went to Australia. They married at Sydney NSW on 16.11.1899 and had two more daughters. At some time they all lived in New South Wales. Sands Directory 1905 they were living at 22 Albert Par Ashfield NSW. 1910 to 1921 showed them living at 10 Albert Parade In 1921 he was a JP He died 9.3.1922.
