Edward was born in 1926 in Crory  Castebridge Co Wexford.  Edward's father was Robert (Bob) Rhynehart and his mother was Sarah Hawkins.  His maternal grandparents are Samuel Hawkins and , Stacy. He had a brother and two sisters, named George, Marion and Elizabeth.  He is the oldest of the four children.
