    Elizabeth Ballantyne-Jackson is a recently retired Ottawa school teacher.
    
    But “once a teacher, always a teacher,” she continues to give presentations to interested schools about the Guatemala Stove Project and awareness of global Issues, as a volunteer and member of the Board of Directors of a small NGO called the Guatemala Stove Project.
    
    “We have no paid employees in our group, but we are an eclectic group of Canadians from the Perth and Ottawa areas who are motivated to help poor families in a concrete way,” she explains.
    
    The group fundraises to build masonry cooking stoves for indigenous Maya families in the highlands of Western Guatemala.
