Thomas was born in 1853 in Mississippi. Thomas' father was William W. Beene and his mother was Isabella (Patton) Beene. His paternal grandparents were Lemuel Rufus Beene and Sarah (Sally) Beene. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Russell, "Samuel", Reuben, William, James, Samuel, Obadiah, Sarah , Martha and Ida.-
