Thomas  was born in 1809 in Trevethin.1   Thomas 's father was William Stewart and his mother was Mary Harries.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Stuart and Margaret Read.  He was the second of five children.  He had three brothers and a sister, named William, James, William and Maria.
