Jones' father was Thomas  Jones and her mother was Sarah Ann Harrris.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard John Jones and Harriet Dyer; her maternal grandparents were Henry Harris and Ann Rees.  She was the seventh of eight children.  She had five brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Jack, Thomas, Glyn, George, Harriett and Blodwen.  She had a half-sister named Martha.
