Sarah was born in 1845 in Tythegston.1   Sarah's father was Richard John/Jones and her mother was Dinah Howell/s.  Her paternal grandparents were Hopkin John and Jennet Richard.  She was the nineth of ten children.  She had four brothers and five sisters, named Richard, Mary, David, Thomas, Charlotte, Hannah, Dinah, Catherine  and Annelyna.
