Harriett was born in 1899.  Harriett's father was Thomas  Jones and her mother was Sarah Ann Harrris.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard John Jones and Harriet Dyer; her maternal grandparents were Henry Harris and Ann Rees.  She was the second of eight children.  She had five brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Jack, Thomas, Glyn, George, Blodwen and Jones.  She had a half-sister named Martha.
