William was born on October 1st, 1873 in Aberkenfig.1   William's father was Henry Harris and his mother was Ann Rees.  His paternal grandparents were John Harris and Laura  Webb; his maternal grandparents were George Rees and Ann Jones.  He was the oldest of eight children.  He had five brothers and two sisters, named John, David, James, Frederick, Thomas, Sarah and Bessie.
