Thomas  was born in 1873 in Stogursey Somerset.1   Thomas 's father was John Harris and his mother was Laura  Webb.  His paternal grandparents were William Harris and Martha Burnett,Burnet; his maternal grandparents were Thomas  Webb and Mary Crane.  He was the nineth of ten children.  He had five brothers and four sisters, named Henry, Frank, Barnett, John, John, Elizabeth, Emily, Kate and Alice .
