David was born in 1881 in Llangynwyd.1   David's father was Henry Harris and his mother was Ann Rees.  His paternal grandparents were John Harris and Laura  Webb; his maternal grandparents were George Rees and Ann Jones.  He was the fourth of eight children.  He had five brothers and two sisters, named William, John, James, Frederick, Thomas, Sarah and Bessie.
