William was born in 1832 in Selworthy and was baptised there on November 11th, 1832.1   William's father was Robert  Gribble and his mother was Ann Tame.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Gribble and Mary  Vater; his maternal grandparents were <Unknown> and <Unknown>.  He was the fifth of eight children.  He had six brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Robert, John, James, Isaac, Abraham and Mary.
