Thomas was born in 1823 in Selworthy and was baptised on October 19th, 1823.1   Thomas' father was Robert  Gribble and his mother was Ann Tame.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Gribble and Mary  Vater; his maternal grandparents were <Unknown> and <Unknown>.  He was the oldest of eight children.  He had six brothers and a sister, named Abraham, Isaac, James, William, John, Robert and Mary.
