Francis was born in 1891 in Coity.1   Francis' father was Charles Coles and his mother was Alice  Maude Gribble.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Coles and Harriet How; his maternal grandparents were Abraham Gribble and Martha Pugsley.  He was the second of six children.  He had three brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Gordon, Leonard, Florence and Catherine.  He died at the age of 28 in 1919.  His burial was on October 2nd, 1919 in Aberkenfig.2
