Joseph was born in 1796 in Stogursey Somerset and was baptised there on January 17th, 1796.1   Joseph's father was Isaac Crane and his mother was Joan Rowe.  His paternal grandparents were George Crane and Hannah Brewer.  He was the fourth of five children.  He had a brother and three sisters, named George , Sarah, Hannah and Mary.
