William was born in 1764 in Luxborough and was baptised there on June 10th, 1764.1   William's father was George Coles and his mother was Joan Orchard.  His paternal grandparents were Henry Coles and Mary; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Orchard and Mary Sully.  He was the oldest of seven children.  He had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, James, Jane , Fanny and Mary.
