Robert was born in 1823.  Robert's father was James Coles and his mother was Mary Edwards.  His paternal grandparents were George Coles and Joan Orchard; his maternal grandparents were Joseph Edwards and Susanna Widlake.  He was the nineth of ten children.  He had eight brothers and a sister, named John, George, George, James, William , Thomas, Joseph, Joseph and Mary.  He died at the age of 1 in 1824.
