Raymond was born in 1931 in Llanharan.  Raymond's father was Leonard Coles and his mother was Florence  Granger.  His paternal grandparents were Charles Coles and Alice  Maude Gribble; his maternal grandparents were William  Granger and Annie Lucas.  He was the second of five children.  He had three brothers and a sister, named Francis , Leonard, Gordon and Brenda.  He died in an accident or as a result of an injury, Killed in Mining Accident, at the age of 23 in 1954 in Llanharan Colliery.  His burial was on March 24th, 1954 in Llanharan Cemetry.1
