Norman's father was Francis  Charles Coles and his mother is Annie May  Stewart.  His paternal grandparents were Leonard Coles and Florence  Granger; his maternal grandparents were Caiaphas  Charles Stewart and Blodwen Mary Jones.  He is the second of six children.  He has three brothers and two sisters, named Andrew, Phillip, Colin, Jean and Margery.
