Charles was born in 1867.  Charles' father was Joseph Coles and his mother was Harriet How.  His paternal grandparents were James Coles and Mary Edwards; his maternal grandparents were John How and Ann Hole.  He was the third of four children.  He had two brothers and a sister, named George, Joseph and Jane.  He died due to natural causes or old age.
