Thomas  was born in 1670 in Timberscombe and was baptised there on March 4th, 1670.1   Thomas 's father was Thomas Coles and his mother was Agnes.  His paternal grandparents were Henry  Coles and Alice .  He was the fourth of nine children.  He had six brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Richard, William, Nathaniel, John, Christopher, Sarah and Joan.
