Nathaniel was born in 1672 in Timberscombe and was baptised there on December 15th, 1872.1   Nathaniel's father was Thomas Coles and his mother was Agnes.  His paternal grandparents were Henry  Coles and Alice .  He was the fifth of nine children.  He had six brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Richard, William, Thomas , John, Christopher, Sarah and Joan.
