George  was born in 1716 in Timberscombe and was baptised there on June 23rd, 1716.1   George 's father was John Coles and his mother was Joan Ridler.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Coles and Agnes; his maternal grandparents were John Ridler and Mary.  He was the sixth of seven children.  He had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Henry, Mary, Sarah, Agnes and Elizabeth .
