Reuben was born about 1834 in Battersea, Surrey.1  Reuben's father was Walter Macklin and his mother was Elizabeth or Sarah Littlejohn. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Walter, Cornelius, George, Catherine, Sarah, Elizabeth, Amelia and Louisa.  He was the eighth oldest of the nine children.  He died about May 1915 in West Ham, Essex.2
