Louisa was born about 1866 in Limehouse.  Louisa's father was John Hollingdale and her mother was Jane Bennett.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Hollingdale and Mary Greenfield; her maternal grandparents were John Bennett and Jane. She had three brothers and a sister, named Arthur, Thomas, Charles and Alice.  She was the oldest of the five children.
