Ellen was born about August 1876 in Milkwell Burn, Northumberland.1  Ellen's father was John Whittle and her mother is Jane Golding.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Whittle and Mary (Whittle). She had a brother and four sisters, named Joseph, Mary, Elizabeth, Eliza and Margaret.  She was the fourth oldest of the six known children.  Ellen is no longer alive.
