John Beckwith

John was born about 1859 in Shotley Bridge, Co. Durham.¹ John's father was Joseph Beckwith and his mother was Ruth Priestly. His paternal grandparents were Cuthbert Beckwith and Jane Wanless; his maternal grandparents were Joseph Preistley and Elenor Preistley nee NK. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, William , Emerson, Eleanor, Jane, Isabella and Frances. He was the fifth oldest of the eight children.
