Joseph was born in May 1880 in Milkwell Burn, Northumberland.1   Joseph's father was John Whittle and his mother is Jane Golding.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Whittle and Mary (Whittle).  He had five sisters named Mary, Elizabeth, Eliza, Ellen and Margaret.  He was the fifth oldest of the six known children.  Joseph is no longer alive.
