Elizabeth was born about November 1873 in Wolsingham, Co Durham.1  Elizabeth's father was James Whittle and her mother was Louisa J. Grundy.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Whittle and Mary (Whittle).  She had three brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, John, James, Mary, Alice and Margaret.  James and Elizabeth were twins.
