Walter was born on June 30th, 1839 in Kirklinton, Cumberland.1   Walter's father was James Irving and his mother was Catherine Burgess.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Irving and Ann.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 51 in 1890 in Tow Law, Co. Durham.
