Thomas was born in 1855 in Pendlebury, Lancashire.  Thomas' father was Thomas Flitcroft and his mother was Mary Ann Perrin.  He had a brother and two sisters, named Benjamin, Phoebe and Susannah.  He was the youngest of the four known children.
