Emily was born about May 1880 in Bolton, Lancashire, England.1   Emily's father was John Crank and her mother was Jane Kitchen.  She had a brother named Joseph.  She was the younger of the two children.  She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Elizabeth, Henry and Mary.
