Elizabeth was born about 1867 in Tow Law, Co. Durham.  Elizabeth's father was Robson Bell and her mother was Sarah.  Her paternal grandfather was Joseph Bell and her paternal grandmother is Elizabeth.  She had four brothers and two sisters, named George, Thomas, Joseph, John, Sarah and Mabel.  She was the oldest of the seven children.
