Joan was born in 1734 in Cutcombe, Somerset, England and her baptism took place there on February 20th, 1734.1   Joan's father was Robert Tucker and her mother was Joan Clatworthy.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Tucker and Elizabeth. She had three brothers and three sisters, named John, William, James, Joan, Mary and Anne.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven known children.
