James was born in 1741 in Cutcombe, Somerset, England and his baptism took place there on March 22nd, 1741.1   James' father was Robert Tucker and his mother was Joan Clatworthy.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Tucker and Elizabeth. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John, William, Joan, Mary, Joan and Anne.  He was the youngest of the seven known children.
