Mary was born about June 1st, 1824 in Dulverton, Somerset, England and her baptism took place on June 21st, 1824 in Winsford Parish Church, Somerset, England.1 2  Mary's father was John Rawle and her mother was Joan Taylor.  Her paternal grandparents were David Rawle and Sarah Liston. She had six brothers and three sisters, named John, Jonathan, Edward, Charles, David, Richard, Martha, Harriett and Ann.  She was the fourth oldest of the ten children.
