Jonathan was born about August 1st, 1822 in Winsford, Somerset, England and his baptism took place on August 26th, 1822 in Winsford Parish Church, Somerset, England.1 2  Jonathan's father was John Rawle and his mother was Joan Taylor.  His paternal grandparents were David Rawle and Sarah Liston. He had five brothers and four sisters, named John, Edward, Charles, David, Richard, Martha, Mary, Harriett and Ann.  He was the third oldest of the ten children.
