James was born about October 1st, 1761 and his baptism took place on October 10th, 1761 in Elworthy Parish Church, Somerset, England.  James' father was James Poole and his mother was MARY Westarn.  His paternal grandfather was Hugh Poole and his paternal grandmother is Rachel; his maternal grandparents were Edward Western and Joan Larcombe. He had three brothers named John, William and HUGH.  He was the oldest of the four children.
