Thomas was born about 1832.  Thomas' father was Joseph Oak and his mother was Sarah Greenslade.  His maternal grandfather was Thomas Greenslade and his maternal grandmother is Hannah Voices. He had four sisters named Hannah, Mary, Elizabeth and Maria.  He was the oldest of the five children.
