Gregory was born about January 28th, 1737 in Exford, Somerset and his baptism took place on January 28th, 1737 in Exford, Somerset, Parish Church.1   Gregory's father was Walter Tidball and his mother was Elizabeth.  He had six brothers, and also a sibling of unknown gender named Alexander, Walter, Richard, Thomas, John, William and Annis.  He was the fifth oldest of the eight known children.
