Alexander was born in 1728 in Exford, Somerset and his baptism took place on March 23rd, 1728 in Exford, Somerset, Parish Church.  Alexander's father was Walter Tidball and his mother was Elizabeth.  He had six brothers, and also a sibling of unknown gender named William, John, Thomas, Gregory, Richard, Walter and Annis.  He was the oldest of the eight known children.
